Clinician Connect August 2017

As a way to get to know the staff at Riverwalk better, we will be featuring a different clinician each month, discussing more personal information about each person. The clinician we will be connecting with is:

Steven Kahn

  • What influenced your decision to become a therapist? “When I was 13 years old my parents got a divorce and I went into a counseling program for children of divorced parents.  I didn’t realize it at the time but later figured out how powerful it could be if you put in the work.  Since then it has always been my passion to help others see their full potential and give them hope when it seems that their world is crumbling around them.  If I didn’t go through that experience myself, I probably wouldn’t be the therapist (in training) I am today. “
  • What did you do prior to your current role? “I spent my college years studying Psychology and received my Master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.  After graduation I worked 5 years for a consulting firm, building process improvement plans and training organizations in Leadership and Managing Diversity.  I then worked for the next 15 years in various executive and leadership roles.”
  • In what ways do you engage in self-care, including hobbies and leisure activities? “Self-care is a big thing for me.  I run half-marathons on a regular basis and completed my first and only marathon in 2012.  Running is a great way for me to spend time with myself and it has become quite therapeutic.  I also have been collecting sports cards since I was 5 years old and still to this day have such a passion for the hobby.  I also play guitar and love spending time with my wife and son.”
  • What is a fun fact about yourself? “Fun fact is the first two weddings I ever went to were that of my Mom and Dad…getting remarried that is.”
